About BSI Financial USA
Our mission, editorial standards, and disclosure policy.
About BSIFinancialUSA.com
BSIFinancialUSA.com is an independent consumer research resource that helps homeowners understand mortgage servicing by BSI Financial Services (legal name: Servis One, Inc., NMLS #38078). We are not affiliated with BSI Financial in any way — no ownership relationship, no revenue sharing agreement, no editorial input from BSI.
Our purpose is to make mortgage servicing information accessible. BSI serves loans for hundreds of thousands of U.S. borrowers, most of whom never chose BSI directly — their loans were transferred through the secondary mortgage market. When problems arise, borrowers need clear, unbiased information about their rights, complaint options, and refinancing alternatives. We aim to provide that.
Editorial Process & Standards
How We Research and Write
Every page on this site follows a documented editorial process:
- Primary source verification — All regulatory claims are traced to primary sources (CFPB enforcement actions, NMLS Consumer Access records, court filings, state regulator databases) before publication.
- Cross-source triangulation — Claims about consumer experiences are triangulated across at least three independent review platforms (BBB, ConsumerAffairs, Trustpilot, Google Reviews) before being reported as patterns.
- Regulatory citation — Every statement about legal rights (RESPA, TILA, FDCPA, state laws) includes a citation to the specific statute or regulation.
- Draft review — All content is reviewed for factual accuracy before publication.
- Publication — Content is published with a "Last reviewed" date visible in the site footer.
- Ongoing updates — Content is re-reviewed at least quarterly for regulatory changes, updated ratings, and new enforcement actions.
Source Vetting Standards
We rank sources by reliability and cite accordingly:
- Tier 1 (Primary regulatory): CFPB enforcement orders, HUD published guidance, court records, NMLS Consumer Access — used for all regulatory claims.
- Tier 2 (Third-party rating): BBB, ConsumerAffairs, Trustpilot, Google Reviews — used for consumer experience aggregation with disclosure that these represent self-selected reviewers.
- Tier 3 (Industry data): Mortgage Bankers Association reports, published rating agency assessments — used for context on servicing scale and financial stability.
- Not used: Anonymous forum posts, unverified social media claims, marketing content from BSI or competitors.
Fact-Checking Process
Before any page is published, we verify:
- All company facts (NMLS ID, headquarters address, phone numbers, corporate structure) against BSI's official filings and NMLS records
- All regulatory citations against the underlying statute or CFPB order text
- All financial data (portfolio size, servicing fees, industry benchmarks) against public MBA reports or SEC filings
- All state-specific legal claims against the relevant state statute and current case law
- All contact information against verified official sources
Where sources conflict, we note the conflict and cite both sources rather than presenting a single unverified claim as fact.
Correction Policy
Accuracy matters. If you identify an error on any page — whether it's a wrong phone number, an outdated regulatory citation, a misinterpreted statute, or an inaccurate description of BSI's practices — please tell us.
Send correction requests to [email protected] with:
- The URL of the page containing the error
- The specific text that needs correction
- The source supporting the correction (regulation text, court filing, official BSI document, etc.)
We commit to reviewing all correction requests within 5 business days. If a correction is warranted:
- We update the content within 48 hours of confirming the error
- We add a correction note at the bottom of the page describing what changed and when
- Major corrections trigger a review of related pages that may share the same error
Tip Line for New Information
If you have information about BSI Financial that isn't reflected on our site — a new enforcement action, a servicing practice change, a state regulator finding, a class action settlement — send tips to [email protected]. Tips are reviewed within 5 business days.
We do not publish user-submitted personal experiences directly (to protect against manipulation), but tips help us prioritize what to investigate through primary sources.
Transparency Disclosures
Affiliate Compensation
This site contains affiliate links to mortgage refinance products. When a visitor clicks these links and completes an application, we may receive compensation from the referring lender. This compensation:
- Does not affect our editorial coverage of BSI Financial. Our critical reviews of BSI (including the 2019 CFPB action, the 1.3-star aggregate rating, and documented complaints) predate and are unaffected by any affiliate relationship.
- Does not create ranking bias in comparisons. We compare BSI against competitors (Rocket Mortgage, Mr. Cooper, PennyMac) using publicly verifiable metrics, not lender payout differences.
- Is disclosed on every page containing affiliate links (via the "Advertising Disclosure" and rel="sponsored" link attributes required by FTC 16 CFR Part 255).
What We Are Not
To be clear about our limitations:
- We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice. State-specific legal information on this site is general education, not counsel for individual cases.
- We are not licensed financial advisors. Refinance recommendations are general, not personalized financial advice.
- We are not a HUD-approved housing counselor. For free counseling, call the HUD hotline at 1-800-569-4287.
- We are not affiliated with BSI Financial, Servis One, Inc., or any BSI parent, subsidiary, or partner company.
- We are not affiliated with CFPB, BBB, or any regulatory agency we cite as sources.
Update Frequency
Different content types are updated on different schedules:
- Regulatory actions: Within 7 days of publication (CFPB press releases, state AG announcements)
- Rating aggregations: Monthly (BBB, ConsumerAffairs, Trustpilot, Google)
- State law references: Reviewed quarterly, updated when statutes change
- Contact information: Reviewed quarterly against NMLS and BSI official sources
- Blog analysis pieces: Published weekly, updated as facts change
The "Last reviewed" date at the bottom of each page reflects the most recent review, not necessarily the original publication.
Editorial Team & Governance
The BSIFinancialUSA.com Editorial Team operates as a collective — content decisions are made through consensus rather than by any single individual. This structure was chosen deliberately to prioritize accuracy over personality-driven authority.
Our writers have backgrounds in personal finance journalism, consumer protection research, and regulatory compliance. All published content is reviewed by multiple team members before publication.
